Travelers seeking employment on Australian shores could be hit with an incredulous 32.5% tax rate following federal legislation. The Australian Taxpayers' Alliance submitted a review questioning the necessity of this tax, as well as discussing the far reaching implications this tax would have on our agricultural and tourism industries.
The main points of our submission are as follows:
1) Australia's agricultural and tourism sectors have major labour shortages which are currently filled by working holiday makers.
2) Changes to existing tax arrangements would harm our domestic industries and would not create value for the Australian taxpayer.
3) Taxes must be kept as low as possible for Australia to maintain a competitive edge in the international holiday maker market.
