Jim: There is also Thorium power, which promises safe and economical electricity generation without the perceived risks of nuclear. The technology is not yet commercially viable, but several countries are fast tracking thorium reactors in the race to provide a safe, reliable and efficient alternative to conventional nuclear power generation.
Bono: It is a great tragedy for Australia that the nuclear power plant plant planned to be located in Eden NSW was abandoned. Apparently some of the foundation work was already started. Eden is the perfect location near the sea and half-way between the two big population-centres in Australia. The necessary upgrade of the power-distribution grid on the eastern seaboard would also benefitted existing power-generators as well as coastline wind-generators. The Nuclear Eden would have become the heart of a major POWER-ARTERY running along the coast between Sydney and Melbourne. With the Lucas Highs Nuclear "research shed" that is only a unbelievably expensive "toy-for-la-boys" Australia boasts a nuclear facility with NONE of the advantages (commercial power production) but ALL of the population-centre risks and costs of nuclear power. LUNACY HEIGHTS! Today Australia should consider one or two mobile seagoing barges equipped for full scale electricity and heat-production using nuclear fission. That would be a safe and world-first Australian engineering-feat constructing mobile nuclear plants. That would be the safest imaginable option.
Bono: Dear Ronald, on NDIS - you may just have the wrong distorted impression. I wrote a well thought out (I thought...) critical comment on the NDIS concept - but it disappeared, yes gone in the big bit-bucket in the sky. Nota Bene, this is a "supervised" site, whatever that can mean. Good night and good luck.
Barry Morgan: What arrogance, what gall, to describe full time others as people who dont work. I cant believe anybody would suffer under such a delusion. Mothering would be up there with the most important careers there is. It is what decides to a great degree what sort of future society we are handing on to the next generation. To glibly dismiss mothering as a non career, which is the implication with most comments, is blind ignorance of the facts. Mothers deserve to be put on a pedestal for their dedication and perseverance and love. We pay people unemployment benefits for not working but not only dont pay mothers for their dedicated labour; we deride their efforts. We deserve the problems of disaffected youth we are now getting from policies that encouraged mothers to abandon the home for the workspace and put our children into the hands of paid 'carers'.
