Climate Change Bureaucrats Jetsetting The World In Luxury At Our Expense

In just two weeks Aussie families will be slugged with a carbon tax to pay for a ‘green utopia’.

But where is this money really going? And are our carbon tax bureaucrats practicing what they preach?

We did a little digging, and discovered what many long suspected: While Aussie families are struggling, bureaucrats are living the high life and travelling to exotic destinations at our expense.

Documents released to the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance under Freedom of Information laws revealed that bureaucrats in the Department of Climate change flew 6,528,616km last financial year, costing us a staggering $3,274,286.40!

And while these very people are lecturing us to act like we’re back in the dark ages the carbon emissions of these flights equal over 1000 tonnes!

The hypocrisy is staggering – it’s one rule for them, and another rule for us.  No wonder they are happy to slug airlines with the carbon tax – they don’t have to pay the bill!

So where were they flying to?

None other than the holiday resorts of Cancun, Vanuatu, Maiami, Fiji, The Maldives, Grenada, Maimi, Barcelona… Must be tough having to travel to places like the Caribbean & South Pacific all the time…

The actions of Department staff make one thing clear: the carbon tax isn’t about the environment, it’s about squeezing taxpayers for their own benefit.

And of course, it’s only the best in luxury travel for our bureaucrats – no expense is spared! Many of these flights cost the taxpayers up to ten times what an online economy class ticket would cost.

A round trip from Sydney to Bali cost for one person $15,311!!!!! I had a look on Jetstar just now, and you could get economy flight for under $700! Then there’s the flight to Seaul ($15,688.57), Thailand ($13,093.74pp for two people), Chile ($12,805.46)…

And this doesn’t even include accommodation: From $21,115.69 for a 5 star hotel in Thailand to the whopping $265,000 for the delegation in Durban.

We asked who took these flights, but they refused to answer. It is no wonder that the department of climate change refused to reveal who took these flights – I’d be ashamed too if this was found out. We shall be appealing this decision, because the Australian public has a right to know whose holidays they are paying for.

This is just the first tranche of a series of documents we received under Freedom of Information laws, and thank you to everyone whose donation made this possible (we were charged over $750!) We shall be releasing further data discovered about waste and misuse of taxpayer funds soon.

One thing is clear though – we need to AXE THIS TAX ASAP!

“A spokesman said the department purchases 100 per cent “GreenPower” schemes to offset its carbon production.” – AGWBS, extra large pile.

There was a greenhouse-friendly Canberra-to-airport shuttle service attempted by a family-owned bus company meant to replace individual taxi rides.(15/10/2011 Aus.)
It stopped every half-hour at various Departments, with very few takers. Reportedly, “…the worst offenders were from the Department of Climate Change. The bus used to stop right outside their office, …only one instance in which the service had been used.”

So, not only is the flight to essential tropical destinations luxurious, but even the ride from the office to the airport. On Cabcharge, paid by the mugs freezing in winter, ‘to save the planet’.

Just turf them out. For twenty years.

Chairman Mao starved millions of his own countrymen to repay a debt he owed to Russia, while he lived the high life punishing anyone who criticized him or his government. We watched a documentary recently. I think all our Canberra politicians should watch this dreadful documentary. Some of the top people in China did not even know that their families were being starved until after they died. Is this what our Labor Prime Minister wants for all of us? The debt in Queensland is so large that soon there will be those, in the very near future who cannot afford to buy food. Many of our farmers are in such dire straits that they are committing suicide. What has to be done to stop this madness before it engulfs us all.

I just found this site. Re pollies travel – In a democracy that info should be public info every day in the press, for public interest & open accountability. I often wonder what happened to the statement JG said – to the effect – open government, let the curtains back & sunshine in etc. Perhaps this statement is in the same category as “there will be no carbon tax under the government I lead.” In my school (some years ago) Animal Farm was on the reading list (Canada). Have Aussie kids ever read this? I took it lightly as a teenager; It happens to other people I thought. I now am reminded of it every day since 2007.

I was following the Pickering Post. It’s been shut down. What is that?

I’m glad to see Michael Smith speaking out. I cannot be at 20th in Sydney but I will be at the rally 22 August at Parliament House. And I wish him all the best. I happened to be listening to him on line the week he had that issue.

Just found this site and read this post. I am appalled. Why is this information not on the front pages of the newspapers??? In politics there is so much hypocrisy on both sides. When will someone make these idiots accountable? This is our money, our hard work our sweat and tears that they are spending with no regard for how hard it is to earn. They roll a billion $ off their tongues like it is nothing. They should realise that $1 Billion is one thousand millions and one million $ is one thousand thousands…so who can throw away that kind of money on nothing..not me. And then they tax the living hell out of us to pay for their own unelected agenda.

Is it possible to move the source documents to something a little more user friendly like google docs, or dropbox.

It really makes me wonder… are the politicians really in it for the good of the people or for their own personal lifestyle, gain and enjoyment. I dont htink they have ever had to wonder how they would pay for hte mext week’s rent and they are well on track to making sure that many Australians will be be just in that position.

The government can only make laws for peace, order and good governance. Can someone explain to me which of these categories carbon tax falls under?

k hosp the answer was revewaled when they gave themselves a 40+% pay rise and then followed up with a further payrise 2 months later.
Not even the Coalition argued against this, it is fair to say the politicians seem to be in this for what they get, Not for what they can do for the people of Australia

Going to bump this, but I just came across this article today. I must say that it saddens me to see our good friends in AUS have found themselves suffering under a liberal/statist/socialist government like we have here in the US. Karu, above, rightly questions under what authority a carbon tax falls. Many of us in the US ask a similar question of President Obummer. Your current leaders, as well as ours, would have us living like it was the Dark Ages again, while they themselves avail themselves of the technology and lifestyle made possible by the serfs they rule over. Perhaps its not too late for us all, but you already let the government take your guns…

Got something to say?
