Coalition Calls For Even More Foreign Aid

Tomorrow's budget will announce an increase in Foreign Aid by $500 million dollars to $5.7 billion.

This has been attacked by the Federal Coalition.

You would think the reason for this would be that our foreign aid money is generally wasted on projects like teaching Australian Rules Football , much of it gets funnelled to domestic left wing activist groups, some of it ends up in the hands of terrorists and the evidence is clear that it actually hurts  - not helps - developing countries, so, now - in the days of budget blowouts - the Coalition would be calling for it to be slashed.

But no. The Coalition is angry that Labor's not increasing it fast enough!
Opposition foreign affairs spokeswoman Julie Bishop said Labor had again broken its promise to increase the foreign aid budget to 0.5 per cent of GNI by 2015...Ms Bishop said the Coalition remained committed to increasing aid spending to 0.5 per cent of gross national income.

So there you have it. Under a Coalition Government, we'll have more hard-earned Australian dollars going overseas to help struggling countries like Indonesia so they can "out-gun" Australia.

Correction: An earlier version of this piece incorrectly stated that foreign aid will increase to $5.7 million, not billian.
