The govt spends over $6m reading about itself

The Ragertarian notes:

Searching AusTender for contracts awarded to Media Monitors and AAP returns a staggering 414 contracts with 77 departments for a total value of $69,305,936.40 That’s going all the way back to July 2005 though, maybe they hadn’t heard of the internet, Google Alerts or Google News back then?

Narrowing that down to just contracts signed in the last financial year we get 49 contracts with 28 departments for a total value of $6,168,051.11 

If that seems like a lot of money to piss away on useless crap don’t forget that it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
