$2 billion direct action rort is murder on the taxpayer

26 February 2019

The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance (ATA), a 75,000+ member grassroots advocacy group representing Australia’s taxpayers, today condemned the Morrison government’s $2 billion expenditure on the Abbott government’s Emissions Reduction Fund.

“$2 billion in hard-earned taxpayers’ money is best spent on schools, hospitals and infrastructure, or on tax relief for Australian families and businesses- not on a fund that will have no material impact on climate change.” Said Satya Marar, ATA Director of Policy.

“The Australian government’s chief scientist Dr. Alan Finkel admits that there will be no impact on global temperatures if Australia’s paltry 1.3 percent contribution to global emissions were totally wiped out. It’s unjustifiable to punish hardworking taxpayers so the government can throw ice cubes into a volcano in a failed attempt to appease extreme green activists and GetUp! because that is all that this policy amounts to.

“If the government is serious about lowering emissions in a fair way, they would renegotiate international agreements like the Paris Accord which give some of the world’s biggest polluters, like China and India, license to massively expand emissions while punishing Australia’s middle class with tax hikes and soaring power bills.”
