Protecting Innovation and Sovereignty: How Australia Can Use Sound Science to Combat EU Activism
”Science-based policymaking” sounds good. But what does it actually mean? This question is at the heart of international debate around how best to encourage the creation of innovative products, while also protecting human health and the environment. Unfortunately, many regulators, especially in the EU, use poorly crafted laws and dubious science to restrict or ban the use of certain materials that enable product innovation. Worse yet, EU activism could lead to the exportation of its precautionary approach around the world, including to Australia.
This dinner, hosted by the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance, will look at what’s at stake for Australian consumers and the economy, as well as the Australian government’s role in defending its science-based regulatory decisions worldwide.
