'It can really screw up a country': Australia's inflation problem

Argentina was once the second richest country in the world. 120 years on and nobody could call it even close to wealthy. It is, like just about all of South America, a victim of rampant, unchecked inflation.

The entire continent has endured the spirals of too much debt and too much printing of money, straying deep into the tangle of inflation: Inflation effectively reshaping South America into a land of hamstrung, second world countries.

Inflation stings. Not only does it hurt individuals in the obvious ways, through increased cost of living and shrinking bank balances, but inflation can wreak havoc on a society’s ecosystem of trade.
