Release: Millions of taxpayer dollars go to ‘woke’ studies

The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance, the nation’s largest grassroots advocacy group representing taxpayers, today condemned the Australian government for spending millions of taxpayer dollars on grants to research identity politics and gender as revealed in a study done by the Institute of Public Affairs.

“Only a small percentage of Aussies identify with the polarising ideas inherent in identity politics, gender studies, intersectionality, and woke culture,” says ATA Communications Manager, Emilie Dye. “Meanwhile the government spends taxpayer dollars to shove this worldview down the throats of those quiet Australians.”

“Women’s studies majors make great baristas, but so do high school dropouts. There is little demand for identity politics research but the government still subsidises it more than any of the other humanities.

“If there is value in this research it shouldn’t need the government to prop it up. These gender studies experts have every right to continue their work with money obtained through non-coercive means as other researches do”

“The intersectional movement has already inundated our culture. Unfortunately, by categorising people into groups identity politics has created further and deeper rifts between Australians. Then by spending taxpayer dollars on grants, the government pits taxpayers against minorities.

“Most Australians worry more about their daily lives than about other people’s gender, skin color or sexual preferences. But when intersectional groups waste people’s hard earned money on irrelevant fields while letting more critical topics fall by the wayside, those individuals get angry.”
